Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Computational Physicist with a strong background in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), ideally applied to plasma modelling, to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing, refining, and applying advanced CFD simulation codes, making significant contributions to our core technology and consultancy projects. You will tackle challenging problems in fluid dynamics and plasma physics, developing solutions that have a tangible impact in the real world.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and optimise CFD codes (preferably using FORTRAN/C++) for fluid and plasma simulations.
  • Implement and validate advanced numerical models for fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and plasma phenomena.
  • Perform rigorous code validation and verification against experimental data and theoretical models.
  • Work collaboratively within our team to ensure seamless integration of code modules and workflows.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for code development and user guides.
  • Analyse complex CFD simulation outputs, extract key insights, and prepare detailed reports.
  • Stay current with the latest advancements in CFD, low-temperature plasma physics, and computational modelling techniques.
  • Develop and refine plasma chemistry sets for integration into CFD simulations.

Requirements:

  • A PhD in Physics, Engineering, or a closely related field, with a strong emphasis on Computational Fluid Dynamics.
  • Extensive experience in developing and applying CFD models.
  • Strong proficiency in programming, particularly FORTRAN (Modern FORTRAN preferred) or C++.
  • Solid experience working with complex geometries, including mesh generation and handling unstructured meshes.
  • Experience with multi-physics simulations, potentially including gas collision physics, particle interactions, or cross-section data.
  • Proficiency in a Linux environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently, managing your time effectively.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Desirable:

  • Specific experience applying CFD to low-temperature plasma physics and modelling, such as for semiconductor processing (Etch, ALD, PECVD).
  • Knowledge of parallelisation techniques (OpenMP, MPI) for high-performance computing.
  • Experience with version control systems like Git (BitBucket, GitHub).
  • Experience with code refactoring, qualification, and established software development practices.
  • Knowledge of kinetic plasma models (Boltzmann solver, Monte Carlo, PIC).
  • In-depth knowledge of rarefied gas flows or reacting flows.
  • Experience with plasma chemistry design.
  • Familiarity with commercial or open-source CFD packages (e.g., OpenFOAM, Ansys Fluent).

What We Offer:

  • A competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Work-life balance and hybrid working
  • UK Visa sponsorship, if necessary.
  • Significant opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • A stimulating, research-focused work environment.
  • The chance to make a substantial impact and help shape the future of a growing company.
